Deep Cleaning 1 Room A Day

Freshly deep cleaned room

Trying to deep clean your whole house is an overwhelming task – and as we all know, trying to do too much at once, usually leads to doing nothing at all!  While it is great to regularly clean your living spaces, a thorough deep cleaning will really make a difference in the state of your home, and makes routine cleaning much more efficient.

One helpful trick to implement is the deep clean one (or two) room per day rule.  You can try to get on a schedule where you rotate through your kitchen, bathrooms, or other heavily utilized room in your home so they all get a weekly deep cleaning.  As you clean them, try to focus on something in particular that you wouldn’t normally do, such as refrigerator cleaning or an in depth all natural grout cleaning.  The deep cleaning doesn’t have to take long, and if you are consistently following this rule, the cleaning will be quicker each week, while still maintaining a deeply cleaned home.

A rigid structure is not necessary either, but figure out what works best for you and stick with it.  You can pick the room based on heavy recent usage. Some people like assigning days of the week to certain rooms, like Monday is master bathroom, Tuesday is kitchen, etc. However, others find having a specific room order regardless of what day of the week it is works better. For example, you always clean your kitchen, then the following day you would clean bathroom 1, followed by bathroom 2, family room, master bedroom, and office. The nice thing about the order routine is if you are busy with your children’s sports schedules or you have family in town, you can take a day or two off and get back into your order without skipping an area for too long.

But just like trying to do too much all at once, trying to do this schedule without a day off (or two) will lead to not keeping up with this routine. So, plan to take some off days and don’t get down on yourself if a couple days go by. When things slow down, get back at it, stay consistent and you will be rewarded with a deeply cleaned home, and will need to put forth less effort to keep it that way!
